Launched in 2009, Spacemail® is a privately funded startup with offices based in London, UK.
Our technology is very new and excitingly innovative, so for us a big part of this early stage has been about keeping an eye on things, managing growth and listening to customer feedback. To date there has been little-to-no formal advertising of our service and we have been primarily growing through word of mouth. Remember Contact Us if you have your own thoughts!
The original idea for Spacemail® was mapped out by the founder Philip Wainhouse during the social networking explosion of 2007/8. Like most ideas, Spacemail® was one born out of frustration. In this case it was the frustration of not being able to make use of the best bit of this emerging new technology - staying connected - without publishing your entire digital footprint to the world. In addition, giving out a contact point to new people as "Find me on [insert latest trend] " still didn't quite seem as clean and neutral as a simple email address. Email wasn't broken; it just needed upgrading a bit to help keep networks together even when contacts move around and change address. Ideally what was required was a way to make email addresses a bit more connectable...enter Connection Points.
In the future, as soon as technology permits us, we envisage the ability to remove "@spacemail.com" from Connection Points altogether, so that people can communicate from anywhere purely by name.
Today in 2010, the goal for us here at Spacemail® is to provide a game-changing, fully integrated communications service that is fit for the modern, connected web world.
A special thanks to digital agency Codegent for their help in the early experimental days.
